Get units for volunteering! Community Engagement (CI) courses are designed to facilitate experiential learning and service to the community. Hours are flexible and arranged between the student and the organization.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (CI 51 & 53)
Community Engagement (CI) courses are self-directed student volunteer courses designed to facilitate experiential learning and service to the community. Students volunteer 50 hours per unit per semester for 0.50 to 3.00 units of credit at a variety of placements. These include schools; hospitals; animal care facilities; environmental, homeless, elderly programs, daycare centers, and other various social service agencies. Hours are flexible and arranged between the student and the organization. This is a graded course with a P/NP option.

With the assistance of the volunteer site supervisor, students formulate three or four learning objectives
Submit Learning Objectives & Hours Form (white copy) to Work Experience Office at SRJC

Hours per semester and units are calculated as follows:
A maximum of 3 units is allowed for the semester. The units apply toward an AA/AS degree from any California community college and are transferable to any California State University.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (CI 54)
CI 54 -Community Engagement for Health Careers: A self-directed student volunteer program designed to facilitate experiential learning and service in the health care community. Volunteer placements include; hospitals, clinics, convalescent hospitals, home health care. Volunteer activities may include; observing/shadowing in a health care institution in the fields of nursing, radiology, physical therapy, or pre-med in an approved volunteer position.
